Getting started

Choose the right practice setup and understand what happens in a session.

How does a practice session work?Choose a setup, speak with the AI interviewer and receive feedback after your answers.

Choose a setup, speak with the AI interviewer and receive feedback after your answers.

Choose an interview type, voice, duration and any optional settings. Test your microphone in pre-flight, then select Start interview when you are ready.

The interviewer asks questions out loud, listens to your spoken answers and follows up based on what you say. Your transcript appears as the conversation continues.

When you finish, Instant Interview analyses the answers you completed and opens your report. Sessions with no completed answer return to the home page without a report.

Which interview type should I choose?Match the practice type to the interview you are preparing for.

Match the practice type to the interview you are preparing for.

Behavioural focuses on examples from your experience. Technical explores technical knowledge, decisions and systems. Case Study tests structured analysis and recommendations. Leadership focuses on influence, judgement and people. General is a lower-pressure conversation about communication and fit.

You can also add a target role, company, CV, job description or custom question bank when those details matter to your preparation.

How does company-specific interview practice work?Add a target company to research it and shape questions around relevant public context.

Add a target company to research it and shape questions around relevant public context.

Enter a company in the practice setup and leave the field to start the research. Instant Interview shows a pre-interview briefing first. When the briefing has medium or high confidence, Use this research in my interview is enabled by default; you can switch it off before starting.

The interviewer adapts the context to the session: behavioural questions can draw on values and recent developments; technical questions on products, technology and technical challenges; case studies on products, competitors and strategy; leadership questions on company scale, values and challenges. Casual interviews use only light industry context.

The interviewer should not test you on company trivia. It uses the briefing to create realistic scenarios and asks how your experience relates. If research confidence is low, it avoids specific claims and asks broader industry questions instead.

On a saved company report, Dig deeper opens the longer company, strategy, interview and sources dossier. Practise with this starts a mock interview using the research, while a Drill button starts a focused voice session containing only that selected likely question.

Company briefings are AI-synthesised from public sources and may be incomplete. Check important facts against the linked original source or the company website before relying on them in a real interview.

What can I change in pre-flight?Review the voice, stage, pressure, practice mode, microphone and response timing before you begin.

Review the voice, stage, pressure, practice mode, microphone and response timing before you begin.

You can change the interviewer voice, interview stage, pressure level and practice mode before the session starts. Duration stays fixed because it controls the time and credit reservation for that session.

Use Test microphone to confirm the correct input is active. The response-rate control changes how long the interviewer waits after you pause before replying.

Changing a setting before you start updates the session you are about to run. It does not change your saved profile defaults unless the setup screen says it will.

How does the custom question bank work?Save expected questions and use them as the main questions in a future session.

Save expected questions and use them as the main questions in a future session.

Add questions from a job description, recruiter or your own research in Profile, then enable the question bank for the session.

The interviewer asks your saved questions in order. It may ask one useful follow-up after a question, but it does not invent additional main questions for that session.

Coach mode and Cold mock

Understand live guidance, personalisation and coaching memory.

What is the difference between Coach mode and Cold mock?Coach mode provides live guidance. Cold mock recreates an unaided interview.

Coach mode provides live guidance. Cold mock recreates an unaided interview.

Coach mode can show live talking points, relevant examples and reminders from your coaching history while you answer. Use it when you are learning or trying to improve a specific pattern.

Cold mock provides no live guidance and does not use past-session coaching memory during the interview. Use it when you want to test what you can do without prompts.

The active mode is shown before and during the interview, and again on the report. Cold mock reports do not show the Your coach is learning section.

How does the live Coach update its guidance? The Coach follows the current question and refreshes its prompts as the conversation changes.

The Coach follows the current question and refreshes its prompts as the conversation changes.

The Coach reads the current interviewer question and the live transcript. It updates what the question needs, the talking points and the examples that may help with that specific answer.

Its guidance can use the target role, company research, your CV, job description and relevant past-session patterns when those are available. These are prompts to help you think, not a script to read aloud.

You can close the guidance to reduce distraction. Select the Coach row or face whenever you want to open it again.

What does the Coach know about me?The Coach can combine information you provide with useful patterns from previous coached sessions.

The Coach can combine information you provide with useful patterns from previous coached sessions.

When available, the Coach can use your target role, company brief, CV, job description, saved stories and recurring coaching patterns. It uses this context to surface a relevant example or reminder rather than giving the same generic advice every time.

The Coach only works with information available to your account and the current session. A Cold mock does not use past-session coaching memory during the interview.

How do I manage or reset coaching memory?Coaching memory helps the Coach recognise repeated strengths, gaps and useful stories across sessions.

Coaching memory helps the Coach recognise repeated strengths, gaps and useful stories across sessions.

Your coach is learning summarises patterns the Coach has seen across coached sessions. This can include recurring areas to work on and examples from your experience that may help with future questions.

To start fresh, open Profile and choose Reset coaching memory. This removes the cross-session coaching memory used for future guidance. Your saved interview history is managed separately.

How does Ask Coach work?Ask Coach answers questions about a completed interview or patterns across your saved coached sessions.

Ask Coach answers questions about a completed interview or patterns across your saved coached sessions.

Open Ask Coach on a report to discuss that report, or open the Coach icon on Dashboard to discuss your preparation over time. It is not available during a live interview, so it cannot provide live answers or scripts.

On Dashboard, Latest interview means your most recently completed interview. Your progress uses saved Coach patterns, story coverage and trends across coached sessions. The active scope is shown above the chat before you send a question.

Ask Coach can explain how Instant Interview features work and direct you to the right Help or policy page. It cannot interpret legal terms, make hiring decisions or invent details for your interview answers.

During your interview

Check your microphone, follow the voice signal and control the session.

Why is my microphone not picking up my voice?Check browser permission, the selected input and your environment before starting again.

Check browser permission, the selected input and your environment before starting again.

Allow microphone access when your browser asks. In pre-flight, choose the correct active microphone and use Test microphone before you start.

If there is no signal, check that the microphone is not muted, close other apps that may be using it and confirm the site is allowed to use the microphone in your browser settings. Reconnect Bluetooth headsets if the wrong input appears.

Use headphones and practise in a quiet space when possible. Background speech can be included in the transcript and affect your feedback.

What does the voice signal mean? The voice panel shows whether the interviewer is speaking, the microphone is ready or your voice is being detected.

The voice panel shows whether the interviewer is speaking, the microphone is ready or your voice is being detected.

Listening for your voice means the microphone is ready and waiting. We can hear you means your voice is being detected. Interviewer speaking means the interviewer is talking while your microphone remains ready for your reply.

Watch the signal if the transcript is not changing. If the panel never reacts when you speak, use the microphone troubleshooting steps above.

What happens if I end the interview early? You can end at any time and receive feedback for the answers that contain enough evidence.

You can end at any time and receive feedback for the answers that contain enough evidence.

If you completed at least one answer, Instant Interview creates a report from the material available. Short sessions may not contain enough evidence for every score, trend or hiring-panel section.

If you end before completing an answer, the session closes without a report. Practice time is charged from the live time used and rounded up to the next minute.

Results and scores

See how feedback is calculated and what each report section means.

How is my interview score calculated? The overall score combines the factors relevant to the interview type and shows their contribution.

The overall score combines the factors relevant to the interview type and shows their contribution.

Open How is this scored? on the report to see the factors used for that session. The mix can include answer relevance, structure, delivery, completeness and interview-specific measures.

Behavioural answers place more emphasis on clear Situation, Task, Action and Result evidence. Technical sessions place more emphasis on technical correctness and reasoning. Case and leadership sessions use criteria suited to those interview types.

Treat the score as a practice signal, not a hiring prediction. The written evidence and the next focus explain what to change in your next attempt.

What do the speaking metrics mean?Speaking pace, filler words and vocal confidence describe how you delivered your answers.

Speaking pace, filler words and vocal confidence describe how you delivered your answers.

Speaking pace is measured in words per minute. Roughly 120 to 160 words per minute is a useful interview range, but clarity matters more than hitting an exact number.

Pace is assessed only after an answer contains at least 20 seconds and 30 transcribed words. Shorter answers can still receive content feedback, but their pace is marked as too little speech to assess and is excluded from pace trends, comparisons and badges.

Filler words per minute tracks repeated ums, uhs, likes and similar thinking sounds. A few are normal. Use the trend to spot a repeated pattern rather than trying to remove every filler.

Vocal confidence reflects the stability of your pace and volume. It does not judge the quality of the ideas in your answer.

What do relevance and vocabulary diversity mean?Relevance measures how directly you answered. Vocabulary diversity measures variation in your wording.

Relevance measures how directly you answered. Vocabulary diversity measures variation in your wording.

Relevance falls when an answer moves to a related topic without resolving the question that was asked. Use the question-level explanation to see what evidence was missing.

Vocabulary diversity looks for repeated wording across an answer. It is a supporting delivery measure and should be considered alongside substance, structure and technical accuracy.

Why does my report change between sessions?Reports adapt to the interview type, practice mode and amount of answer evidence available.

Reports adapt to the interview type, practice mode and amount of answer evidence available.

A report shows the sections that apply to that interview. A technical session can include technical accuracy, while a coached session can include the live pointer debrief and coaching progress.

The report also records whether the session used Coach mode or Cold mock. Cold mock reports leave out coach-learning content because no live coaching memory was used during the interview.

Some sections need several answers before they can make a meaningful assessment. When there is not enough evidence, the report explains what is still needed instead of inventing a verdict.

Credits, account and privacy

Manage practice time, plans, recordings and your account data.

How do credits and practice minutes work? One credit pays for one minute of live interview time, rounded up.

One credit pays for one minute of live interview time, rounded up.

New accounts receive 10 free credits. Sessions can run from 3 to 30 minutes. If you end early, the live time used is rounded up to the next minute.

Credits from one-time packs do not expire on a monthly cycle. You need enough available practice time to start a new session, but your account, history and existing reports remain available if your balance reaches zero.

Should I choose a pack, subscription or 48-hour pass?Choose based on how often you need to practise and whether you want subscriber features.

Choose based on how often you need to practise and whether you want subscriber features.

Choose a one-time pack for practice minutes with no renewal. Choose a subscription for a monthly or annual allocation plus subscriber features such as advanced progress analytics, unlimited STAR Coach and answer rewrites, company briefings and saved recordings.

When the 48-hour pass is available, it starts when payment completes and provides unlimited live practice for 48 consecutive hours. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

The Pricing page shows the current options and exact limits for each plan.

How do I cancel or request a refund?Cancel renewal in the billing portal or contact support about an eligible purchase.

Cancel renewal in the billing portal or contact support about an eligible purchase.

You can cancel a subscription from the Stripe billing portal. Monthly access continues until the end of the current billing period. Annual plans are paid upfront, and cancelling stops the next annual renewal.

Unused credits from a one-time purchase can be refunded within 7 days. Used credits cannot be refunded. Refunds for a current subscription period are considered case by case.

For a refund request, email support with your account email, approximate purchase date and credit amount.

What happens to my transcript and voice recording?Transcripts support feedback and history. Recording retention depends on your plan.

Transcripts support feedback and history. Recording retention depends on your plan.

Your spoken audio is processed to run the live interview, and the transcript is used to generate feedback. On the free plan, no audio recording is retained after the session ends.

Paid plans can keep a rolling number of recent recordings based on the plan limit. Older recordings are removed automatically as the limit is reached. You can delete your account and associated data from Profile.

Read the Privacy Policy for the providers, storage locations, retention periods and your data rights.

Where can I read the Terms and Privacy Policy? The policy pages are the authoritative source for how the service is used and how personal data is handled.
